A Quick but Memorable Anniversary Getaway to Ketchum, Idaho

Writer: Marymichael NeushulMarymichael Neushul

Sometimes, the best trips are the short and sweet ones—just enough time to soak in the beauty of a place, indulge in great food, and create unforgettable memories. For our anniversary, we set off on a quick getaway to Ketchum, Idaho, a charming mountain town that felt like a slice of Switzerland in the U.S.

Our journey began with a quick flight into Boise, where we took the opportunity to explore the state's capitol. After a brief walk around, we enjoyed a quick but satisfying lunch before hitting the road. The two-hour drive to Ketchum was scenic, winding through stunning landscapes that set the tone for the peaceful retreat ahead.

We checked into the Limelight Hotel, a chic and centrally located stay in downtown Ketchum. With its modern mountain-lodge feel, the hotel was a perfect base for our trip. After settling in, we enjoyed a drink on the hotel's inviting patio, soaking in the crisp mountain air before taking a leisurely stroll to dinner.

Our first night’s meal was at Enoteca, a highly regarded restaurant known for its cozy ambiance and exceptional food. From start to finish, dinner was a delight—fresh ingredients, thoughtful flavors, and a warm atmosphere made for a perfect anniversary evening. We had trout that was so fresh and flavorful, making the meal even more memorable.

The next morning, we set out on a hike along the Sunny Side Trail in Adam's Gulch, embracing the fresh alpine air and stunning mountain scenery. Ketchum is an outdoor lover’s paradise, and it felt invigorating to be surrounded by nature. After working up an appetite, we headed to the legendary Sun Valley Lodge for lunch. The lodge exudes old-world elegance and history, and our meal was a treat. After lunch, we wandered around the charming town, admiring its European-inspired architecture and boutique shops. The town’s resemblance to a Swiss village only added to its charm.

For our last night, we took a short drive to Hailey, a nearby town, for dinner at Tundra. This hidden gem exceeded all expectations—the food was outstanding, with bold flavors and creative dishes that rivaled big-city dining. It was the perfect way to close out our trip on a high note.

The next morning, we took our time enjoying the complimentary buffet at the Limelight Hotel before heading home, already reminiscing about our special getaway.

Ketchum may be small, but its charm, outdoor adventures, and incredible dining scene make it a fantastic destination for a quick yet fulfilling escape. I left hoping to return one day to experience more of what this enchanting mountain town has to offer.
